Yeah!! Probably one of the hardest summary I've ever done, as far as I can remember. Took me the half day to finish it and I made my group member mad for not coming to her house and go to City Mall together. I'm sooooooooooo damn sorry Nadine dear, terlambat bangun. Huhu!!
So, I'm gonna post the damn shitty fuck summary here and y'all can comment about it.
How prevalent is plagiarism on your campus?
Internet is a very powerful source for information, knowledge and the largest network in the world. Getting information from the internet is easy, too easy that students nowadays are relying too much on internet to do their work without even trying to do it on their own.
Plagiarism, a serious intellectual crime is indeed a growing cancer on all campuses and this is because most of the students are actually manipulating the internet for their own good. They are too eager to have their homework done so that they can have fun is actually one of the reason why they commit plagiarism. Generally, ‘copy and paste’ activity- copying a few sentences from the website and paste the information on a paper- is common to students. In fact, it is not a huge matter as long as they can finish their work on time.
One of the problems that are occurring in Malaysian educational system is spoon- feeding. From primary to secondary, the way of teaching is the same, providing all the knowledge and information to the students. When these students further their studies to university, it will be hard for them to cope with the university level of education because the way of teaching is different. Getting use to critical way of thinking will be a burden and this will cause a habit to plagiarize.
Besides that, some students may feel that they are not good enough in their studies so they tend to plagiarize to get good grades for their assessment or students may fear failure or fear taking risks in their own work. They will either copy from their friend or from the internet and pretending as if they owned all the ideas. This actually will be a habit and they will continue doing it. Students who plagiarize are hurting themselves in the long run and at the same time threaten the academic integrity. After a while of forging, their ability to think creatively will decrease.
Plagiarism has been ignored and apparently, students are not aware that the ‘copy and paste’ is actually illegal. And some of them don’t understand what plagiarism means. But somehow it is understandable because lecturers never emphasize on the issue. It is a part of their duties to basically warn the students every time they are handling out assignment to their students.
In conclusion, plagiarism is an issue that we could not underestimate. Either it’s intentional or unintentional; plagiarism should be given an exposure by educators openly so that eventually it will be an eye opener to the students. This will educate the students on how to cite properly and avoid plagiarism.
